Terms of sale

Seller details
Trading name: Oak & Almanac
Email: [email protected]
VAT: Not VAT registered, so no VAT is charged.
  1. Who you are buying from. The seller is Oak & Almanac (see the Seller details above).
  2. Who we sell to. We sell to consumers in the United Kingdom. Prices are in pounds sterling (GBP) and include UK delivery. We are not VAT registered, so no VAT is added. We deliver only to addresses in the United Kingdom.
  3. Your order and our contract. You choose your item and its personalisation, check your basket and pay through Stripe. Your contract with us is formed when payment is confirmed and we email you a confirmation. We may decline an order, for example if we cannot make it lawfully or to a good standard. If we do, we refund you in full.
  4. Payment. Payment is taken in full at checkout by Stripe. Your card statement will show OAK & ALMANAC.
  5. Your personalisation. Please check names, dates, places and spellings before you pay. For physical items we email you a proof to approve before printing, and we print exactly what you approve. You confirm that you are entitled to send us any photos, documents or text you supply, and that they do not break anyone else's rights.
  6. Changing your mind: personalised physical items. Our books and prints are made to your specification and clearly personalised. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, the usual 14-day right to cancel does not apply to them. As a goodwill gesture, you can still cancel for a full refund before we start the research or the proof. This does not affect your rights if an item is faulty (see clause 9).
  7. Changing your mind: PDFs and other digital items. PDFs are made for you and emailed. When you order one, you ask us to start straight away and you agree that you lose your 14-day right to cancel once we send it to you. Until we send it, you can cancel for a full refund by emailing us.
  8. Gift certificates. If you buy a gift certificate and the details for the item have not yet been given to us, you can cancel within 14 days of our order confirmation for a full refund. Once the details are given and we start work, clause 6 or 7 applies. A certificate is valid until the date printed on it and can be redeemed only for the item it names.
  9. Faulty, damaged or wrong items. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described, and digital content must be of satisfactory quality. If your item arrives damaged or faulty, or does not match the proof you approved, email us with your order reference (it starts with OA-) and a photo. We will reprint or refund it at no cost to you. We may ask you to return the item, and we will pay for the return. Your statutory rights are unaffected.
  10. The research. We base the content on published and archival sources, and we say so where the evidence is uncertain. We cannot guarantee that third-party sources are free from error, but we will correct any error we made at no charge. If we cannot find enough material to make a worthwhile item, we will refund you in full. For The Soldier's Story, if we cannot identify your ancestor with confidence from the surviving records, we will tell you before writing, and you can choose a full refund or a shorter book about his unit.
  11. Delivery. Delivery times are estimates; see Delivery. If an item has not arrived within 30 days of the date we told you it was posted, tell us and we will reprint it or refund you. An item is your responsibility once it is delivered to the address you gave.
  12. Copyright. We own the copyright in our designs, writing and layouts. You may keep, display, share and give your item for personal use. You keep the rights in any photos or text you send us, and you allow us to use them only to make your item.
  13. Our responsibility to you. If we break these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. We sell for private use. We are not liable for business losses.
  14. Complaints. Please email [email protected]. We aim to reply within one working day and to resolve complaints within 14 days. If we cannot agree, you can get advice from Citizens Advice (citizensadvice.org.uk, or Advice Direct Scotland) and use the courts.
  15. Law. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts and you keep the rights you have under your local law.
  16. Changes. We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the one shown when you placed it.

These terms apply from 25 October 2026.
