About Oak & Almanac

Oak & Almanac makes personalised keepsakes that are researched rather than made up. Our first gift is the Place History Book: the story of a house, street or village, built from published histories, historic maps and heritage records.

How we research

Each book is researched from named sources: published county histories, historic maps, heritage records and open archives. Every fact in the finished book is checked against the source it cites. Where sources disagree, or we can't confirm something, we say so on the page. We never invent people, dates or stories.

What we won't do

We don't research or publish information about living private individuals. We use only sources we're allowed to use, and we credit every picture.

Who we are

Oak & Almanac is a small, independent UK business. Alongside the Place History Book we make The Day You Were Born, a print of what made the news, the number one and what things cost on someone’s birthday, with the original Met Office weather chart for the day; Our Day, the same for a wedding day; the Life Map; and Street Through Time, the dated story of a house or street on one print. You can see every example on the home page.
